19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.
The Russian, a former world number one, has had a difficult period, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach Cervara.
Presently working with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.
It is the player's first championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard surface since that period of that year.
Success also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 various events.
"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated tennis professional Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on court had caused observers to wonder if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, reinforced by an better service.
Medvedev recovered from a break down in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the final five exchanges to go ahead.
Both players swapped break points in the middle set before the challenger, bidding for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
Moutet defended 4 initial break points in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev secured victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
