UK Set to Employ Frozen Russian Funds to Fund the Ukrainian Military Campaign

The UK is set to progress with using the full worth of seized Russia's holdings to bolster Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has declared.

In a shared declaration, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this coordinated action would escalate tension on Moscow's head Vladimir Putin and urge the Russian Federation to participate in talks.

They further noted that the decision would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.

United Kingdom penalties have blocked more than £25bn of Russia's funds since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, previously, funds provided to Ukraine using Russia's assets had exclusively been taken from gains and dividends generated on them.

Sir Keir assured President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their goal to push forward toward using the full value of the frozen Moscow's national holdings to conclude the conflict.

He stated that further measures in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on the Russian government.

This declaration is subsequent to European Union officials gathered in the Danish capital previously to debate using seized Russia's holdings for a €140 billion financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, American leader Donald Trump called on Group of Seven partners to take or employ immobilized Russia's assets, based on news outlets.

The value of immobilized Russia's assets in the European Union is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

The Russian government carried out large-scale missile and drone strikes throughout the Ukrainian territory on recently, leading to power cuts in many areas of Kyiv, Kyiv, and eight other regions.

In a post on X following the strike, Zelensky stated that the premeditated assault aimed at civilian and energy infrastructure.

Additionally that day, Zelensky told reporters he would encourage Sir Keir to enter the PURL scheme, under which Nato countries acquire arms from the America to provide to Ukraine.

While applauding the UK's consistent assistance for the Ukrainian government, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would participate in the program, as well as enforce further sanctions on Moscow.
