Only 11 weeks ago, Aston Villa were winless and languishing in the relegation zone of the Premier League.
Now, however, driven by manager Unai Emery, they occupy third place with growing talk about their potential role in the title race.
Saturday's dramatic finale against league leaders Arsenal highlighted their credentials, with the 2-1 victory marking Emery's 63rd Premier League win – the most in the club's annals.
From his 162 matches in charge, Emery boasts a win rate of 54.94%.
Additionally, in the 2025 campaign, only Arsenal and Manchester City have accumulated more points (71) than Villa's haul of 67 from 34 outings.
This transformation is particularly noteworthy given the squad's beginning to the campaign, which saw them in the bottom three, eliminated of the Carabao Cup, and the last team in the Football League to score a goal.
Questions were asked about Emery's methods after a close-season where recruitment power was restricted by financial rules.
So, what has Emery changed to spark this revival? The simple answer is very little.
The dedicated Spaniard has shown the conviction to stick to his beliefs and guide his team through early-season problems.
There was a sense that the club was in a flat spell, beyond in terms of results. The meteoric rise under Emery in prior years had heightened hopes significantly.
Exhaustion from their progress to the Champions League quarter-finals seemed contagious, impacting both the stands and the players.
"I am not focused on it [the title]," Emery stated after the impressive success over Arsenal. "I know 38 matches is incredibly tough. We are not considered a contender."
Emery views the training ground at Bodymoor Heath as a sanctuary, with a high level of focus required from everyone.
He has remained steadfast, even as key striker Ollie Watkins struggled for goals early on.
The level of control he possesses at Villa Park is significant – a situation he did not have during his tenures at Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain.
This environment has enabled his detailed methods, from training sessions to video analysis, to stay unchanged and eventually pay dividends.
Having stuck to his game plan, the outcomes are now evident.
Villa have secured victory in nine of their last ten Premier League games.
A look at their last five top-flight outings reveals telling advancements:
While it required Villa time to get going, Unai Emery has demonstrated to be their greatest asset and led their ascent in genuinely remarkable fashion.
